As you probably already know, one of our core values is to create shared experiences. With that in mind, about a year ago, WAC opened up its (virtual) kitchen doors to open up a new point of connection with members: live events. Here, we carve out a shared moment during the week to cook, chat, and connect over wild-caught seafood. It’s the closest we can get to having you over for lunch.
I know that many of you have had the opportunity to join us at one of these virtual gatherings, but for those of you who haven’t yet, I wanted to share three reasons why we love hosting these live events — and why I think you might enjoy pulling up a chair to our virtual table.
1. You’ll learn some new things.
Lately, the live events have been programmed around teachable skills that can help anyone hone their seafood cooking skills at home. How do you perfectly sear salmon so that the skin gets golden and crispy? Which cooking technique is best for making fish tacos? What’s the deal with rockfish? These events are perhaps most beneficial for those of you who don’t consider yourself seafood experts, but I think that even seasoned home cooks can find something new to appreciate — a new flavor combo explore, a new hack to try, a new perspective on a species.
2. You’ll probably eat more fish.
I have a hunch that if you’re watching someone cook fish, chatting with someone about fish, or perhaps thinking about fish in general (surely, I’m not the only one with Alaskan fish on the mind at any given moment?), you’re more likely to end up eating more fish. For those of you who aspire to eat seafood on a more regular basis, signing up for a live event may just be the catalyst, the inspiration, or the reminder you’re looking for to achieve this delicious goal.
3. We love having you there.
We love knowing that you’re just as enthusiastic and curious about wild-caught seafood as we are! After all, WAC has always been more than a box of fish. To Arron, my husband and WAC co-founder, starting this company was also about building a more connected community. The live events crew enjoys sharing a little debrief afterward to celebrate what went well: “Lots of good questions from members today!” “Great to see Terri, Ed, and Irving in the chat, again.” “Really liked Diane’s suggestion for using a grill pan for this recipe.” Of course, you don’t have to wait for a live event to chat with someone from the Member Experience team, but being able to connect with you over the sounds of fish sizzling in the background feels especially right.
I realize not all of you have had the opportunity to attend live events, as they’re typically scheduled during our own work hours (for now, anyway). But no matter what your schedule is, you can always click into condensed versions of live events on the Wild Alaskan Company YouTube channel to see what we’ve been cooking. And for a connection to our community, make sure you’re signed up for our exclusive What’s Cooking Tonight? Facebook group where your fellow WAC members are sharing favorite recipes, swapping seafood advice, sharing fish tales, and posting food pics from their kitchen tables.
The next few weeks of live events are inspired by summer and seafood on the grill — you can check out the schedule here. My teammates would be so happy to see you attend one of these, especially if it’s your first time. Tell them Monica sent you!
Live Wild,
Monica
