Earlier this year on WAC’s exclusive Facebook Group, one of our members posted about her frustrations when cooking Pacific cod. Having been a member of Wild Alaskan Company since 2019, she recounted in good faith every attempt she’d made to prepare this lean species of white fish — but to no avail. No matter how she cooked her fillet of Pacific cod, it ended up rubbery “100 percent of the time.”
Her post sparked a robust conversation filled with specific suggestions, shared frustrations, and contrarian opinions. It’s incredible to me how much dialogue food can inspire, and I truly appreciate the enthusiasm and support that all of you offer one another, and that you offer our team as well.
Since we are all equally enthusiastic about fish, WAC teammates Trisha and Kat were inspired to arrange a virtual Recipe Redo cooking session with this member to see what we could do to guide her dish of fish to deliciousness. Spoiler alert: The Recipe Redo was a success! You can read a little write-up about this member’s cod conversion on our blog.
Even the most advanced home cooks have had their share of highs and lows with each species of fish. But a little trial and error allows us how to tweak our technique along the way, and also helps us to explore our preferences with fish — what textures we love, which flavors we enjoy pairing with each species, whether we’re Team Skin-On or Team Take-It-Off.
If Pacific cod is one of the species you are learning to love, or you’re simply looking to try out a different cooking method, the WAC recipe team has put together some new foolproof recipes for you to try. Each of the following Pacific cod recipes employs moist, gentle heat to cook the fish so that it’s tender and flaky every time:
-
A packet of parchment/foil steams your meal to perfection in our recipe for Pacific Cod en Papillote with Cherry Tomatoes, Oregano, and Lemon.
-
Kick off soup season with this veggie-packed recipe for Pacific Cod Coconut Stew.
-
Indulge in a bowl of Spicy Pacific Cod Linguine with Tomatoes and Kalamata Olives.
Can’t get enough Pacific cod? You might consider indulging in the new 2-Pack Add-Ons that we’re offering, which automatically adds two packs of your favorite species to your orders so that you have more of what you love in each box. Log in to your account and visit the Add-Ons tab to browse the possibilities.
Live wild,
