How to Turn a Halibut Steak Into Self Care

January 20th, 2022

Lift Your spirits with a Special Dinner of Pacific Halibut Steak

Something indulgent to eat. At times, it feels like the only remedy after a long week of little challenges hurled at us like tennis balls from a machine. Because changes of plans, unexpected complications, or even a tweaked back can really make a week extraordinary, in all the wrong ways.

To take the edge off these type of weeks and tweaks, there truly is nothing like a comforting meal — one that’s extraordinary in all the right ways — to signal to our taste buds that it’s time to take a deep breath and appreciate the things in our lives that are helping us keep it all together, even (especially!) when the going gets tough.

For me, meal indulgence after a hard week can’t be overly complicated or time-consuming, and I don’t like the food to be so heavy that it puts me straight to sleep. My ideal is a modestly elevated dinner that’s ready fast, something so delicious that it’s a special treat but so foolproof that I can’t mess it up.

Which is why I can’t say enough about this recipe: Seared Pacific Halibut Steak with Creamy Peppercorn Sauce, our play on the classic French bistro order, Steak au Poivre — poivre meaning pepper in French. I love our take on this dish because it feels as rich and hearty as the original red meat version.

Made with Pacific Halibut Steak, though, this dish is more delicate in texture, with a flavor that contrasts really beautifully with the spiced richness of the peppercorn sauce. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate how easy it is to pair up something as indulgent as cream sauce with a lean, nutrient-rich protein.

For just this reason, I highly recommend keeping a couple Pacific Halibut Steaks in your freezer  — they’re a perfect quick-yet-interesting-and-effortlessly-satisfying entree choice to have in your rotation. They’re bone-in and skin-on, which gives these cuts of Pacific halibut a little extra flavor and moisture as they cook, and they also tend to be cut a bit thicker than regular fillets — a few reasons why you’ll have a little more grace while cooking them.

We currently have a member special running for a 2-pack of 8 oz. Pacific Halibut Steaks — and for a limited time you can add these steaks to your next box for just $30. We haven’t offered halibut steaks since May of last year, and our  members absolutely loved them. So log into your account and visit the Member Special page to indulge in this offer before it sells out!

Pictured above: A golden, perfectly-seared Pacific Halibut Steak smothered in a savory cream sauce, studded with coarsely crushed black peppercorns. A crusty slice of bread on the side is there to help sop up any sauce that’s leftover on the plate, while a cold, crisp drink within reach helps to balance the richness of the dish.
