How to Pan-Fry Ground Sockeye Salmon

An Easy Way to Prepare This Versatile Protein

Ground sockeye salmon can be pan-fried like any other variety of ground protein, making it a versatile protein option for any meal. Because sockeye is quite lean, it helps to add some fat to the pan as it cooks to keep it moist and prevent sticking. Note that ground sockeye will not "brown" as it cooks, so when pan-frying it, you will simply need to cook it through until it becomes a bit pale in color and is opaque throughout.

Depending on the recipe, you can pan-fry ground sockeye salmon as patties, or as a loose, ground meat to enjoy in tacos, sauces, and more.

How to Pan-Fry Ground Sockeye Salmon

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz.) pack ground sockeye salmon
  • Cooking oil of choice
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

1. Heat up a large skillet over medium heat with cooking oil.

2. Add ground salmon to the pan, breaking up the mixture to cover as much surface area in the pan as possible to lightly brown the meat. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan as you’re stirring to lift up any bits that have begun to stick. Cook the salmon until it has become lightly browned and cooked through evenly, about 5 minutes.

3. Season or use as directed by recipe. Ground sockeye salmon can also be enjoyed plain, if desired.


Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of food-borne illness, especially if you have a certain medical condition. The FDA recommends an internal temperature of 145°F for cooked fish.
