How to Cook Sockeye Salmon With BBQ Seasoning

July 1st, 2025

Step-by-Step Methods to Cooking Sockeye Salmon With BBQ Seasoning

Our Sockeye Salmon With BBQ Seasoning comes fully seasoned with a smoky-sweet blend of spices — ready to cook right out of the pack. Whether you’re preparing it from frozen or thawed, this offering delivers a bold, satisfying, and nourishing protein option in minutes.

If you don't have pre-seasoned Sockeye Salmon With BBQ Seasoning in your kitchen, try our recipe for Blackened Salmon With Honey Marinade for a similar flavor profile that you can make from scratch with a plain fillet of sockeye salmon.

We’ve outlined four simple cooking methods below, starting with air frying — our preferred method for its speed and ability to caramelize the BBQ seasoning evenly and effortlessly.

Air Frying BBQ Sockeye Salmon

*PREFERRED METHOD* This cooking method is simple, convenient, with no flipping required. The dry convection heat of the air fryer will crisp up the exterior of the fish while leaving it juicy and flaky in the center.

From Thawed

  1. Generously spray the basket or tray of your air fryer with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Place the fillet skin side down in the air fryer basket, then cook at 400°F for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet.
  3. The salmon is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 130°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Let rest for 1 minute before serving.

From Frozen

  1. Generously spray the basket or tray of your air fryer with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Place the fillet skin side down in the air fryer basket, then cook at 400°F for 9 to 11 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet.
  3. The salmon is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 130°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Let rest for 1 minute before serving.

Grilling BBQ Sockeye Salmon

Why grill BBQ Sockeye Salmon? This cooking method is perfect for an outdoor setup or stovetop grill pan. The direct heat of the grill brings out a delicious char on the exterior of the fish, enhancing the flavors of the seasoning. Note: We do not recommend grilling BBQ Sockeye Salmon from frozen.

From Thawed

  1. Prepare a hot grill or grill pan (high heat). Make sure the grates are clean and lightly oiled.
  2. Place the salmon skin side down on the grill. Cook undisturbed for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the thickest part of the fillet reaches 125°F for medium-rare doneness. Add a few more minutes as needed to reach desired doneness.
  3. Remove from heat and rest for 1 minute before serving.

Broiling BBQ Sockeye Salmon

Why broil BBQ Sockeye Salmon? This quick, easy cooking method brings the BBQ seasoning to life, adding color and texture to the fish, as well as a subtle char.

From Thawed

  1. Position your oven rack to the top position, about 4–6 inches from the heat source. Set broiler to 500°F (or high).
  2. Place the fillet skin side down on the prepared baking sheet. Broil for 6 to 8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon is done when it reaches 135°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Let rest briefly before serving.

From Frozen

  1. Position your oven rack to the top position, about 4–6 inches from the heat source. Set broiler to 500°F (or high).
  2. Place the fillet skin side down on the prepared baking sheet. Broil for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon is done when it reaches 135°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Let rest briefly before serving.

Baking BBQ Sockeye Salmon

Why bake BBQ Sockeye Salmon? Baking is a simple, hands-off cooking method. It’s ideal when you’re cooking for more than one, as baking allows you to easily prepare multiple fillets on a single baking sheet.

From Thawed

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Arrange fillets skin-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or prepared with cooking spray.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Transfer fish to a plate and allow it to rest for about 1 minute before serving.

From Frozen

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Arrange fillets skin-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or prepared with cooking spray.
  3. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillet. The salmon is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F and flakes easily with a fork.
  4. Transfer fish to a plate and allow it to rest for about 1 minute before serving
