Easy Broiled Honey Garlic Salmon

May 10th, 2023

Honey Glazed Salmon with a Garlicky Kick

This honey garlic salmon recipe leverages pantry staples to make a sweet and garlicky sauce that complements flavorful wild-caught salmon. Honey garlic salmon is also quick to make — it can be on the table in under 15 minutes. The fillets only need a few minutes under the broiler to become perfectly flaky, since wild-caught salmon is leaner than farmed Atlantic salmon.

How to Make Honey Garlic Salmon

Making honey garlic salmon is easy, with only a few steps. It requires no marination, but you can let the salmon marinate briefly while the broiler is heating up.

  1. Preheat the broiler.

  2. Mix together a simple sauce.

  3. Coat salmon in sauce, then broil.

  4. Garnish, then serve.

You can also skip the broiler and make baked honey garlic salmon instead. Follow the Wild Alaskan Company’s step by step guide to learn how to bake salmon, and add in the honey garlic sauce before putting the fish in the oven.

Ingredients for Honey Garlic Salmon

The ingredient list for this honey salmon recipe is made up of pantry staples.

  • Reduced-sodium soy sauce: A splash of soy sauce in the honey garlic mixture adds savory flavor to the glaze. If using regular soy sauce, omit any salt and adjust the amount of soy sauce to your taste.

  • Honey: You can use any type of honey in this honey garlic glaze.

  • Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar has acidity with a mild flavor. If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, you can use rice wine vinegar instead.

  • Garlic: Minced garlic gives the honey glaze a pop of flavor. You can omit if you don’t have garlic.

  • Ground ginger: Ground ginger adds a subtle spice to the meal, complementing the sweetness of the honey and garlicky heat.

  • Cilantro: While not required to make this honey garlic salmon glaze, a garnish of chopped cilantro adds color and fresh flavor to the dish.

Yield

4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 (6 oz.) portions sockeye salmon or coho salmon
  • Neutral oil or cooking spray
  • 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

1. Arrange an oven rack to be 4 to 6 inches from the broiler element, then preheat broiler to highest setting.

2. Meanwhile, line a rimmed baking sheet with foil, turning foil up at the edges to catch any sauce. Lightly grease foil with oil or cooking spray.

3. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, vinegar, honey, garlic, ground ginger, salt and pepper. Stir until honey fully dissolves.

4. Use a clean tea towel or paper towel to pat salmon fillets dry. Then, add salmon to honey glaze mixture in bowl and turn to coat.

5. Arrange salmon skin-side down on baking sheet and drizzle remaining marinade on top. Place on top rack in oven then broil until center of fillets register at 120F at thickest part for medium-rare doneness, about 4 to 6 minutes depending on thickness of fillets. Add a minute or two of cook time as needed until fillets reach desired doneness. Keep an eye on the salmon as it broils — if sauce begins to burn, move salmon to a lower rack or away from broiler element until cooked to desired doneness.

6. Remove from heat and let rest 3 to 5 minutes. Top with remaining sauce from the pan and fresh cilantro. Enjoy immediately.
