VP of Product

Remote, based in U.S.


You’re a pragmatic visionary. You lead by example, remain humble and aren’t afraid to hop in and work alongside the team if necessary. On any given day, you pace around the park and stay a couple extra minutes in the morning brushing your teeth, running through scenarios and figuring out how to test hypotheses. Some of your most gratifying moments are when your team figures it out. Always constructing a bridge across the moat, you frequently connect teams, lead others in problem solving and create shared experiences. And when the castle is under attack, you know when to fortify, build, build and build. You understand that a product isn’t just software. It’s part of a greater experience.  

This is a new position at Wild Alaskan that will report to the Executive Vice President. By coaching a team responsible for leading the advancement of the online experience, the opportunity is yours to tremendously impact and sustainably grow the business. 


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work closely with the CEO and Executive Vice President to develop a comprehensive product strategy that is bounded by our values, aligned with our mission and generates unique value for Wild Alaskan’s members 
  • Lead and coach a team of product managers, product and quality assurance specialists, and UI/UX designers in developing realistic road maps, meeting sprint commitments, creating delightful experiences and driving business value
  • Proactively think about organizational design as the team scales, and partner with the leadership team to maintain cross-functional alignment and cohesion
  • Craft budgets, forecasts and timelines for all product initiatives in conjunction with finance and the leadership team
  • Partner with data science and analytics to plan, manage and ensure KPIs for all product streams are relevant and measurable
  • Build and refine frameworks to foster cross-team communication and collaboration between the product team and other functions of the business 
  • Lead the philosophy behind the continuous advancement of hiring, teammate development, team building and motivation frameworks for the product team
  • Stay up to date with the newest technologies, business methodologies and seize opportunities to advance our product stack + frameworks in order to improve the team’s productivity and grow its loyalty
  • Lead contract negotiation and the relationships with all software partners pertaining to product
  • Report on the successes and failures of product efforts, as measured by our KPIs, to the leadership team and board of directors
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to make sure all workstreams are properly resourced
  • Evangelize product thinking across the organization in multiple forums, including monthly all-hands and functional report-outs
  • Ensure the entire member journey is cohesive and delightful
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS


Requirements

  • 10+ years leading product teams in the ecommerce and/or saas space
  • Experience managing product managers
  • Past responsibilities of leading both mobile and web app experiences
  • A track record of designing, building and leading teams
  • Meticulous and extremely organized
  • A strong analytical and critical thinker
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Passion to inspire and willingness to teach others
  • SQL/Looker fluency
  • A constant hunger to learn and try new approaches; a love of tinkering and testing ideas
  • Ability to build consensus across teams
  • Seasoned agile coach
  • Success working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment  

Nice to Haves

  • Background in UI/UX and/or software engineering
  • Familiarity with leading teams in hardware, connected devices
  • Involvement at a rapidly growing start-up
  • Experience in marketing, supply chain and/or finance
  • Working knowledge of FullStory and Asana
  • Past employment in the service and/or food industry
