People Operations Manager

Remote, Based in the U.S.

This is a new role at Wild Alaskan; as the first to inhabit it, you will tune and scale our foundational systems, policies, and processes as the company continues to grow. Reporting to the VP of Finance and Business Operations, you’ll be part of a small but mighty team that is collaborative, fast-paced, challenging, and fun.


  • Help craft and oversee implementation of a comprehensive people strategy, encompassing recruitment, ongoing learning/development, performance evaluation, and compensation
  • Continue and deepen Wild Alaskan’s commitment to becoming a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Collaborate with department heads on hiring plans, crafting and posting job descriptions, screening applicants and managing relationships with contract recruiters
  • Update, improve, and maintain onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Expand and own the nascent employee recognition program, celebrating important milestones, professional achievements, and our company values in action
  • Update, execute, and analyze the results of employee engagement surveys
  • Support the work of the cross-functional Team Experience committee to deepen employee engagement
  • Manage and improve benefit programs and processes, taking into account benchmarking, employee feedback, compliance, and cost considerations
  • Act as point person for any employee grievances or policy questions, work with managers to ensure equitable and consistent corrective actions
  • Manage our leave of absence programs and serve as subject matter expert and primary point of contact for leave administration (e.g. FMLA, ADA, and Workers Compensation)
  • Manage HR audits and filings related to EEO-1 reporting and benefits compliance
  • Maintain and establish increased awareness and understanding of employment law, industry trends, current practices, and new developments
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned



  • Significant experience in comparable HR / People Operations role
  • Demonstrated hustle; self-starter able to coordinate multiple stakeholders and effective project manage cross-cutting initiatives
  • Creativity, empathy, and resourcefulness
  • Comfort working in conditions of uncertainty and rapid change
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Unwavering follow-through
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A willing teacher, and a strong desire to continuously learn

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in rapid-growth startup environment
  • Past employment in food and/or ecommerce
  • Experience working with remote/distributed teams
  • Familiarity with JustWorks PEO
  • Comfort with Asana
